That’s up to you. You can specify how long you’d like to forward your mail for – maybe it’s temporarily for 2 months, or maybe it’s the maximum allowed time of 12 months. If you select the maximum of 12 months of mail forwarding, the postal service will make your address available through their National Change of Address (NCOA) list. As a result, mailers and marketing firms that know your name and old address will now have access to your new address.
If you don’t want this to happen, we recommend temporarily forwarding your mail for about 6 months.
